Knittin' Granny

Hmmmm. I really don't know what to post. I'm a prolific sock knitter. Mostly I knit socks for myself but also occasionally for the grands. I am currently working on a pair of plain vanilla 2by2 ribbed crew socks in Trekking 126 which reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream or those old fashioned pink, white and brown Brach's candies (turns out they are also called Neapolitans - http://www.candyfavorites.com/Neopolitians-Brachs-pr-139.html). Actually I think I will go to my stash right now to pick out some yarn to make some socks for my oldest grand. I noticed him wearing some DK weight socks I made for him last winter (deliberately large enough so they would fit for 2 winters) a few days ago when I was at their house for a visit of several days. And I remembered that I had seen him wear them almost every time I was at their house except on really hot days. So I asked him if he liked to wear them because they were nice and warm on a cool rainy day (which it was). He responded that he liked to wear them because I made them for him (awwwww). His birthday is the day after Halloween so I want to have some new socks for him (in addition to his shark costume which is all cut out but needs to be sewn together - his baby sister was too curious about the sewing machine for me to get anything done at their house).

I guess I should start making entries in my journal since I have had it for over a year now. I finished my Monkey socks &, while I do like the way they look, I liked the pattern even more. It is well designed & very well written. I'm going to look for more of Cookie's sock patterns to knit. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was knitting using 5 DPN's instead of 4. Having the non-working needles form a rectangle resulted in awkwardness for me. It felt like I was always fighting the last needle used when starting to knit at the beginning of a new needle. If I knit them again, I'll use Magic Loop (it always seems strange to call it that since I have been using the technique without a name since long before the book was written.)

I am going to be spending about a week in Seattle near the end of May.  I always like to buy yarn as a souvenir when I visit someplace.  Can anyone familiar with the city, tell me their favorite shops & why they like them.  I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll be staying downtown & public transportation is a must.  So, if you have directions on how to get to your favorite shop via the bus, that would be super.   Also I heard something about some sort of yarn crawl in Western Washington in May.  I'd love info about that if anyone has it (a website would be fantastic).
